With some of the red-top newspapers harrumphing at non-stories of 'political correctness gone mad' that apparently prove how Christmas is being driven out of existence, it is a sad fact that the early signs are of slim pickings on the law firm front. We have already had the first few of many emails about not sending cards and donating the money to charity, as well as an e-card (cheap or what?). Happily, however, the annual Christmas special from City firm Lewis Silkin surpassed some recent efforts (although we fondly recall the ice cube tray spelling out Justice - just ice, geddit?). This year we received warm wishes in the shape of a soft scarf in the firm's corporate orange. At one end, the words 'Warm lawyers' are stitched, while the name is at the other. Our concern is that casual observers may think the wearer is called Lewis Silkin, but a search of the Law Society's 'find a solicitor' service identifies at least one lawyer who could use it. Rory Silkin is an assistant at Bond Pearce in Southampton, and one of his two middle names is, happily, Lewis. We hope the firm will do the decent thing and send him a scarf too
