Claimant to fame: Back in July, Obiter profiled Joseph Bateman, who set up Bateman Solicitors in 1967 at the age of 22 years and 237 days. Originally, the firm was located on the dining room table at his mother's house, with his grandmother acting as secretary (see [2007] Gazette, 19 July, 8). It is now based in Bovingdon in Hertfordshire.

It now transpires that setting up a firm so young was not his only claim to fame - he was also principal to none other than high-profile claimant personal injury lawyer Kerry Underwood (pictured), who was Mr Bateman's articled clerk for five years. 'Whether that is another thing that Joe should be proud of is for your readers to judge,' writes Mr Underwood.
