Given all the hoo-ha about the number of complaints made against solicitors, it's only fair to point out that the general public can often be a few sandwiches short of a picnic. New proof - if it were needed - that this is the case comes in the shape of research by Yell.com, the local search engine, into the most commonly misspelled or mistyped words when people are searching for shops and services. 'Restaurant' topped the table after being incorrectly entered into the Yell search box more than 76,500 times in February. 'Accommodation' came second, with 20,390 mistakes. So far, so unsurprising. But in third place, with some 8,767 misspellings or typos per month, was 'solicitors'. The most frequent misspellings were: 'solicators'; 'solicetors'; 'soliciters'; 'solicotors'; 'solictors'; 'solisitor'; and 'solisitors'. Maybe lawyers will be charged with teaching their clients the three Rs in the bold new world post-Clementi. If the clients can contact them, that is.
