A blowsy, feelgood musical is coming to London’s West End next week that’s guaranteed to lift your spirits amid the recessionary gloom. Based on the hit movie of the same name, Legally Blonde is the award-winning Broadway sensation created by Tony Award-winning director and Olivier Award-nominated choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray). The cast includes Peter Davison – famous among those of us of a certain age for having played Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small (oh, and Dr Who).
It tells the story of college sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods (Sheridan Smith), who ‘doesn’t take no for an answer’. When her boyfriend, Warner (Duncan James), dumps her for someone serious, she puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School!
‘This much fun shouldn’t be Legal’, we are promised. Those who like the sound of it will be pleased to learn that Obiter has got its mitts on a pair of tickets. To win you must first correctly answer the following showbiz question: ‘Big-hearted’ Arthur Askey’s pre-war BBC comedy partner went on to play a barrister in a much-loved ITV legal comedy drama. Who was he, and who was the barrister? Email: obiter@lawsociety.org.uk. One winning answer will be plucked out of Obiter’s cap.
