Corrie collared: soap stars have proved fertile territory over the many years of Obiter's search for pictures of lawyers with minor celebrities, and Ian Ginbey, a recent recruit to City firm Macfarlanes, is the latest to make the grade. Profiled in the firm's Property Press newsletter, the jokey article says Macfarlanes was looking for a planning lawyer 'able to operate at the highest level for 25 hours a day' (that bit probably is not a joke) and got its man 'although the dog-fouling expertise was an unexpected bonus'. This leads into a story about Mr Ginbey's time as a trainee at Dover District Council, where he ran the only dog offence in Dover ever to make it to the Crown Court. During the hearing, the owner asked for permission to call the Alsatian accused of fouling on Dover pier as a witness (the judge refused). We will hurry over the reference to how the case is hounding him through his career. The article then concludes, for no obvious reason, with this picture of Mr Ginbey (right) with Philip Middlemiss, who 'Coronation Street' fans will not need telling used to play Des Barnes.
