A team of lawyers from CPS Bradford were glad not to be left with egg on their faces after challenging Britain’s brainiest quizzers on a BBC2 contest recently. They took part in Eggheads, which, for the uninitiated, is a teatime show in which teams pit their general knowledge skills against the winners of some of TV’s most famous quiz shows, including Mastermind, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Fifteen-to-One. Solicitor and Crown advocate Dave Mackay rallied his colleagues to form a CPS team which comprised three more solicitors – divisional Crown prosecutor Roger Stephenson, and senior Crown prosecutors Brian Simpson and Roger Woodward, along with associate prosecutor Vanessa Schofield. The prosecution team, calling themselves Five Blind Ladies after the statue of Blind Justice at London’s Old Bailey, put up a valiant fight. But despite their formidable knowledge of darts and popular music, they ended up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and returned home without the cash prize. Still, it was not all bad. Apparently the free sweets in the BBC’s green room are fantastic.
