The Indian Advocates Cricket Association (IACA), whose motto is 'Cricket for friendship', has just returned home after an extremely successful tour of England. The team notched up wins against the King's Bench Walk Cricket Club (KBWCC) from the bar, City firms Lovells and Jones Day, and the Osterley Cricket Club.

It also tied with London firm Mishcon de Reya - players from both sides are pictured above with supporters - for the Devil's Cup, a six-a-side tournament run in Dulwich by KBWCC. The only blip on the tour was a loss to the Indian Gymkhana team.

The IACA touring party also paid a visit to Chancery Lane - president Santhan Krishnan even handed a 'Cricket for friendship' memento to Law Society President Fiona Woolf.

The trip came ahead of the first-ever Lawyers' Cricket World Cup, which is set to take place in Hyderabad, India, from 30 December 2007 to 7 January 2008. Organised by the IACA and hosted in conjunction with the International Cricket Group, the event will be inaugurated at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium by the Chief Justice of India, Mr Justice KG Balakrishnan.

Apart from India, countries expected to provide a team include Sri Lanka, the West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan, Australia and - of course - England. The English team is being organised by James Cartwright, a barrister at 10 King's Bench Walk (email: kbwcc@hotmail.com).

Let's hope they can put in a better performance than Michael Vaughan and his cohorts did recently out in the Caribbean. And that there's no repeat of the 'Fredalo' incident (unless a full report and pictures are provided for Obiter).

The IACA are also on the lookout for anyone who might help with - and in particular, sponsor - the tournament. For more information, contact Mr Krishnan at santhaan_krishnan@yahoo.com.
