Christmas always sees Obiter deluged by well-wishers with gifts of a legal profession nature. This time round, the Lawyers Jokes, Quotes and Anecdotes 2005 Calendar is a superb example. Although extremely north American in its bias - it is, after all, produced by Andrews McMeel Publishing of Kansas City - this collection of entertaining snippets would brighten any day. A few titbits for the delectation of our readers:
In Rhode Island it is illegal to challenge someone to a duel or to accept a duel, even if that duel is never fought. 'I see disaster. I see catastrophe. Worse, I see lawyers!' The character of Cassandra in Woody Allen's 1995 film 'Mighty Aphrodite'. And a special joke for legal journalists:
An experienced editor tried to explain the newspaper business to a cub reporter: 'You can't sell any papers with a "Dog bites man", but "Client runs off with attorney's funds" - why that would sell out a special edition.'
