Worthy though the many exotic charity achievements of solicitors undoubtedly are - sailing down the Amazon on a toothpick, hopping across the Sahara backwards holding a thimble-full of water, that kind of thing - we always look forward to the annual sponsored walk organised by Liverpool firm Forster Dean, harking back to the good old days of far more mundane events, like sponsored silences and sponsored spells. This year they took to Wales for a 16-mile hike, which does not sound that much but these things take time when they are punctuated, according to a note sent to us by the firm, by 'many stops at local cafes and pubs'. In total, £2,500 was raised to send a very sick little boy on his dream holiday to Cyprus. Meanwhile, Joseph Clayton, a secretary at Bristol firm Bevans, has successfully completed the challenging Parish Walk on the Isle of Man - an 85-mile walk within 24 hours. Only 98 of the 1,100 walkers completed the challenge and Mr Clayton was one of them. He raised money for Cancer Research UK in support of his mother, who is terminally ill with cancer.
