Geek chic: it was a bit like a conference for conspiracy theorists from an episode of the 'X-Files'. Though the first UK law blogging conference was a most interesting event to attend (see [2007] Gazette, 31 May, 13), it did have its fair share of eccentricity - most people attending the event had some interest in remaining anonymous, some even from each other. The main organiser is the primary author of Geeklawyer, who has been scrupulous about retaining his Superman-like secret identity - so much so that attendees had to speak to him using the name 'Geek' because this is all they know of him. This wish for anonymity also made for amusing introductions, such as 'Hello, I'm from the Gazette, and you are?' 'I'm HeadOfLegal'. One then needs to go on talking to someone using their blog as a name. 'So, HeadOfLegal, what did you think of...' and so on. Obiter is already thinking of some rude and ridiculous blog names it will set up before next year's event. With luck, there might even be name badges.
