Another Obiter competition has recently focused on familial ties, a result of tennis star Tim Henman being spotted at the firm founded by his great-grandfather Adolphus Ballard, Oxford's Henmans. Last week we heard from Tim Monckton of Whitehead Monckton in Kent, the great-great-grandson of John Monckton. But Paul Grimwood-Taylor of Derby firm Taylor Simpson & Mosley can arguably do better. 'I am reliably informed that I am the great-great-great-grandson of Samuel Taylor, who was practising law in London in 1794. His son William Grimwood-Taylor moved to Derby in 1857. William and the next four successive generations of my family in direct descent - Adolphus, Sancroft, Richard and I - have practised law here ever since.' This looks like an unbeatable bid, but if you can establish a longer legal lineage (ideally with an Adolphus in there somewhere), email gazette-editorial@lawsociety.org.uk.
