Big news from the Nottingham office of regional law firm Edwards Geldard, where some lawyers had a meal last week. Specifically, the firm hosted a dinner involving its associated law firms in Germany and clients. So far, still not all that interesting (Clifford Chance hosts so many meals at its offices that it has a maitre d'). But we have to thank Edwards Geldard for persevering: the dinner was held on one of Germany's most popular saints days, St Martin's Day. Legend has it that a goose's honking revealed the fourth-century saint's hiding place as he tried to avoid being appointed Bishop of Tours. The goose became the symbol of St Martin, and it is now a national tradition to eat goose on that day. So now you know, and should you ever meet a German on 11 November, remember to honk.
