Sir David Calvert-Smith QC is generally recognised as having done a good job during his five years as Director of Public Prosecutions, and two years on, he is not forgotten by past colleagues at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). According to a breathless report from in-house magazine CPS News on the service's annual sports day (where everyone 'showed a fantastic team spirit' - not something always associated with the CPS in the past), the 'overall family group challenge award' took the form of the Sir David Calvert-Smith trophy. Fittingly enough, it was won by a team from CPS headquarters, where Sir David was stationed, which also triumphed in the tug-of-war. The practice should come in useful when it comes to divvying up the CPS's budget.
