Over to the new offices of Boodle Hatfield in the heart of London's Mayfair. Following in the tradition of office openings, the firm trotted out one of its long-standing clients to do the honours at the celebratory reception last week. In this case, it was the Duke of Westminster (Boodles has advised the Grosvenor Estate since the early 18th century, so that really does count as long standing), and in keeping with these events the guest of honour (pictured, right, with partner Tim Manning) made a few short remarks. Of course it is fashionable, these days, to produce at least one lawyer joke, and the duke is apparently a man who wants to keep up with modern trends. His joke involved comparing rhinoceroses and lawyers, with the punch line including the words 'thick skinned' and 'charge a lot'. A bit rich, chuntered a guest or two (using the word advisedly), considering the Duke owns much of central London and surely should be able to weather his legal bills better than most. By the way, the highlight of the offices are some leather-padded white walls - presumably a precautionary measure for those clients who need to bang their heads on receipt of a rhinoceros-sized bill.
