Jessica Bowman, who has recently joined Preston law firm MWR as a trainee, has achieved a rare feat for one so early in her legal career - the 22-year-old has qualified for two of Obiter's longest-running competitions. Ms Bowman is a particularly notable entrant into our lawyers with a musical claim to fame, as our first world champion brass musician. She played the euphonium in the Smithills youth brass band that was twice world champion at the world youth brass band championships, which are held in Kerkrade, Holland, and attract contestants from around the world. The band also won the national youth brass band championships five times, with Ms Bowman voted best intrumentalist at the 2001 event. Unsurprisingly, the PR people were not going to allow any of this to go unnoticed with their Basil Brush, 'boom boom' headline 'MWR appoint top brass'. Ms Bowman is also able to enter our sporting claim to fame category, winning 24 England caps for hockey at a junior level. Details of other multi-skilled lawyers and trainees should be sent to gazette-editorial@lawsociety.org.uk.
