There aren’t many people who can claim to have spent the best part of two months under a rhinoceros. But that is precisely what Sara Corley (pictured), a dispute resolution solicitor at Hillyer McKeown in Chester, has been up to. Corley created two impressive rhino sculptures as part of the city of Chester’s Rhino Mania event, which began on 5 July. For 10 weeks, rhino sculptures created by local artists will adorn the city’s streets, much akin to London’s Elephant Parade, Liverpool’s Go Penguins and Edinburgh’s CowParade. The project will celebrate Chester’s cultural identity and also raise awareness of the plight of the black rhino, which has been pushed to the edge of extinction. Corley’s two clever artworks consist of one brightly coloured beast with a patch of white where it has been literally ‘wiped out’ by man, and a second which is entirely white except for a large barcode with the words ‘while stocks last’ underneath. Powerful stuff. But why should a solicitor be drawn to such a project? It turns out that lawyers and rhinos have more in common than you might think. As Corley herself quips, they both have thick skin and apparently they charge like hell.
