The winner of the latest hotly contested 'most overblown claim of the week' award goes, without reservation, to Cardiff Law School, which announced last week that 'law clients in England and Wales will benefit from the world's best- trained students'. It followed a 'major' victory by two of its students at the 2005 International Client Interviewing Competition. Bar vocational course student Matthew Parry and legal practice course student Lara Hayes held off 'worldwide competition' from 13 teams - including the US favourites on their home patch - to become the first Welsh champions. Next year's competition will be held in Cardiff, and the lucky entrants can look forward to visiting Big Pit - the national mining museum of Wales. Without being rude to the Welsh capital or the museum, one wonders whether students around the world will be clamouring to experience its charms as much as we suspect they were this year - the consolation prize for the losers was that they were in Hawaii.
