We have clearly touched a chord with our exposé of those crazy indexers and their spurious entries. After last week's report on the James Bond 'Licence to Kill' entry in Woodfall's Landlord & Tenant (see [2005] Gazette, 24 March, 12) another reader has brought to our attention page 1,240 of the fourth edition of Hague - he's been a busy chap since he stood down as leader of the Tory party - on Leasehold Enfranchisement. As you can see, it reads:
'Outside lavatory, 2-13 use White Paper.'
As Baron von Richtoven in the fourth series of 'Blackadder' (might have) put it, 'How lucky you indexers are to find the toilet so amusing. For us, it is a mundane and functional item. For you, the basis of an entire culture.'
