Regular readers of Obiter will know that we have long indulged in a bit of celebrity spotting. The list of stars - from A-list to K-list - to have graced this page when in the company of members of the legal profession is endless. But this week we have something special - a snap of showbiz legend Ken Dodd. Yes, Ken Dodd of Knotty Ash, Jam Butty Mines, tickling sticks and the Diddymen fame. But that is not all. We have Ken Dodd in the presence of 92-year-old Col. Paddy Bryson, the only English judge ever to be shot at in court. The reason for this august occasion was a lunch to celebrate Col. Bryson's 75 years in the law. The shooting happened in 1960, when a nightclub owner took a pot at Col. Bryson when he was sitting as a bankruptcy judge. He seriously wounded two court officials. Col. Bryson disarmed him and received the Queen's commendation for bravery. But enough of such heroics. Or, as Doddy might say, tatty bye!
