Here at Obiter HQ, we are always keen to hear of legal triumphs in the field of sporting endeavour. So it is with great delight that we bring you news of a recently crowned world champion, no less. Guy Barker (below right), a private client partner at Henley firm Mercers, has just won the World Rackets Doubles Championship. Together with his rackets partner Alister Robinson (also pictured), Mr Barker won the title over two legs last month - the first was held in Chicago, with the return taking place at Queen's Club in London. For those unfamiliar with the sport, rackets has its origins in the prisons of the early 19th century with inmates hitting balls against the high walls. Ironically, it is now primarily played in public schools - although many would argue a close connection between the two types of establishments. Anyway, it is the fastest racket sport in the world, with the ball reaching speeds of up to 165 mph - so hats off to Mr Barker.
