With his tenure as director-general of the Confederation of British Industry coming to an end, is Sir Digby Jones (right) looking to return in some form to the legal profession? In recent months he has given a rousing speech to the Law Society annual conference, lobbied for practice rights on behalf of the profession with the Indian government, made a bit of a stink at last week's Birmingham Law Society international symposium with what the Birmingham Post called a 'vitriolic' attack on the US, and has also found time to help a former work colleague launch a new legal practice in Dudley. Stephen Garrett, one of the founders of Hawkins Hatton, knew Sir Digby from their time together at Edge Ellison and persuaded his one-time senior partner officially to open the firm's new offices and share a glass of bubbly. The five-partner practice is the product of a merger between Hawkins & Co and William F Hatton & Co.
