In a slight diversion from our 'lawyers and their boats' theme, it seems that a group of sea-goers, possibly affiliated with some of the City's leading law firms, put the 'naughty' in 'nautical' earlier this month when they were reported to have chartered several yachts in Port Hamble Marina, near Southampton. Obiter has been contacted by a source - a solicitor trying to sleep in one of the boats moored at the marina - who claims a gaggle of late night revellers returned from an evening of festivities. It seems the group may have been the wrong side of tipsy, and began marching up and down the pontoons, singing and shouting 'at the top of their voices'. Our source informs us that an amiable chap in another boat politely asked whether the group could 'keep the noise down'. His request was eloquently greeted with a shout of 'f*** off', our informant recounts. The next morning, those apparently responsible were spotted disporting t-shirts emblazoned with well-known law firm logos. Obiter's bleary-eyed mole went to the charter company's office to inform them of the night's events. Staff told her that she was already the tenth complainant that morning. The source, who is a regular visitor to the marina, added: 'You get all kinds of groups there, including children with behavioural problems - but none of them ever behaved as badly.'
