Brains and brawn: Two goliaths of the legal world went head-to-head recently in the Macmillan Cancer Relief annual tug-of-war competition. The main event is the House of Lords v the House of Commons, but every year two law firms compete against each other as well. This year saw Clifford Chance, led by partner David Lewis, challenge Herbert Smith for the title (won by the latter in 2005 by defeating Farrer & Co). A close-fought battle saw CC earn the bragging rights for 12 months, a trophy and, er, a chocolate football.
