Now for a different sort of lawyer-bashing. The history of lawyers in the boxing ring is a short - and not necessarily glorious - one. Recent legal 'contenders' profiled by Obiter have included a 32-year-old family solicitor and mother-of one from Mansfield, who lost her first fight but took revenge in the rematch. Then there was the Isle of Man lawyer who held the unique distinction of being the only contestant in the Real Fight Club - the white-collar boxing organisation - to have been knocked out cold in the first round. More successful was the barrister who became white-collar world light middleweight champion.

This week sees eight plucky souls from City firm Lovells entering the fray. They are to fight in a fundraiser for YourStory, a London-based community organisation that the firm has helped through the Business in the Community programme. The firm insists that training has been good - 'there has been a lot of perspiration but thankfully no tears and no blood'. At least not yet. Obiter looks forward to reporting on how they got on.
