Tassells in Faversham, Kent, has informed us that it has an intrepid explorer in its midst. Partner Ann Matthews is about to cycle through Jordan from Amman to Aqaba, in aid of the Kent Multiple Sclerosis Society. Matthews’ cheeky colleagues have informed us that she has previously been ‘a little reticent’ on the exercise front, but her new fitness regime is ‘stunning us all’. She is pounding the gym, eating sensible food – apparently resisting the early morning pain au chocolat that some kind soul brings in every day – and ‘actually cycling rather a lot’; a good job given that the final day of the trip will involve a 65-mile stint. Apparently Matthews did suggest that a certain colleague should accompany her, to which the solicitor regretfully pointed out that, as they were in the same department, it would be unfair on clients for them to be off at the same time. How selfless. This colleague is now enjoying two French pastries in the mornings. See www.justgiving.com/ann_astbury to make a donation.
On to a speedy roundup of some more pedal-powered lawyers. Goldloves managing partner Paul Carvis and colleague Alistair Wareham are warming up for a 90km bike ride in aid of Save the Children. Also in the saddle, Walsall firm Enoch Evans is commemorating its 125th anniversary by cycling 125 miles of the local canal network, in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice (donations through www.justgiving.com/enoch-evans125k-charity-bike-ride). Don’t go too near the edge, chaps.
Meanwhile Victoria Johnson and James Reilly from Manchester firm Ralli have raised £1,040 for the Brain and Spinal Injury Centre by completing the 64-mile Manchester to Blackpool bike ride.
A final mention for Dawn Lawson and colleagues at Coleman-ctts in Surrey, who are taking part in the Run to the Beat half-marathon – not on bikes this time, that would be cheating – in September in aid of Cancer Research UK. See www.justgiving.com/dawn-lawson.
