Obiter's regular minor celebrity-watch feature goes alternative this week with the appearance of comedian and poet John Hegley as 'guest of honour' at a party thrown by north London property law practice Peter Brown & Co. Mr Hegley naturally chose to have a pop at the accountants, estate agents and other guests who gathered to celebrate the firm's relocation to new offices. The legal profession was not spared either, despite the firm's hospitality.
'But look out for the lawyers
They're here to annoy us,
They go through the motions - you pay through the nose
Their jargon makes sense - you just have to suppose
I'd love to see love-letters lawyers compose!'
