Anecdotal and totally unscientific evidence has emerged that solicitors are meaner when it comes to Poppy Day contributions than the junior side of the legal profession, the bar. One solicitor tells us that she recently engaged a Remembrance Day charity collector in conversation at the Law Society's HQ in London's Chancery Lane. Without any prompting, the tireless soul volunteered that 'barristers are much more generous than solicitors &150; they tend to chuck a tenner in. It's just a bit of change with solicitors.' Clearly these are not criminal law barristers, as we all know they are on their knees financially. But nonetheless in the great giving battle solicitors seem to have a bit of work to do. Not to worry, once the government's alternative business structures - that's multi-disciplinary partnerships, to you and me - are launched, this will be a moot issue
