As you can see from the picture, it is that time of year again. No, not Halloween, but the arrival of this year’s edition of The Civil Court Practice, known to all as the Green Book. To mark the tenth anniversary of the Woolf reforms, LexisNexis, the publishers of the 6,000-page tome, turned the Royal Courts of Justice green for the evening. At a reception in the courts’ Bear Garden, Nicky Briggs, director at LexisNexis, said with reference to rival civil bible, Sweet & Maxwell’s White Book: ‘This is the first time this white building has gone green. And we hope to see more green within its walls.’ Biggs was naturally enthusiastic, but if you don’t believe her, you can go to YouTube, where a supportive barrister has posted a 10-minute video on the book. Obiter won’t go that far, but wishes the Civil Procedure Rules a very happy birthday.
