In the run-up to Valentine's Day next Wednesday, lawyers across the land will (briefly) turn away from billable-hours targets to matters romantic. And help is at hand - at least if you are in the US.

As what might well be the first lawyers-only dating service, LawyersInLove.com makes for highly amusing reading. Targeted at US lawyers (you need a US zip code to register), this website set up by a female Justice Department lawyer late last year has a quirky sense of humour and a feel for what lawyers need in a partner. How do we know this? Because we registered with it.

Most of the hilarity comes from the choices you can make in telling the apparently thousands of other members what you are like. Website picking lists, those drop-down menus that allow you to choose from a series of responses, are usually very dry affairs - not so those at LawyersInLove. Under 'appearance' you even get the opportunity to describe your smile... though the choices are 'pleasant, average, crooked, or toothless'.

And while the US is a nation of disparate cultures, Obiter was surprised that you can register your religion as something as far out as 'Druid' or, startlingly, 'Aztec'. But best was describing our drinking habits. You can choose from this list:

No, I don't believe in it.

No, gave it up.

Yes, but rarely.

Yes, socially.

Yes, frequently (one or two drinks a week).

Yes, daily (one or two drinks a day).

Yes, constantly (all day).

Yes, only when I go into court.

Yes, intraveneously.

Sadly, there appears to be no one out there right now for a hard-drinking Aztec with a crooked smile. Any offers?
