Criminal defence solicitors may remember politicians campaigning for the release of 'Coronation Street' character Deirdre Barlow after she was jailed for offences she didn't commit, but now their family counterparts have a new mission to help warring couple Jack and Vera Duckworth, who are apparently rumoured to be on the point of splitting. Andrew Greensmith, vice-chairman of family lawyers' group Resolution, has warned that many other middle-aged couples are now flying off in separate directions, like pigeon-loving Jack and long-suffering Vera. 'We all hope that the Duckworths find a way to resolve their differences and get back together again but in the meantime, they have some issues to address, and they need to get the right kind of advice,' he urged, adding: 'As long as they are separated but not divorced, Jack might still claim a share of Vera's future bingo winnings. Vera could make a claim against the pigeons although "dividing" them may be messy.'
