Jacob Rickett, environmental law assistant at Browne Jacobson in Nottingham, is looking to complete a 10-race challenge in a year – including full and half marathons – to raise money for the charity Arthritis Care. Rickett, 27, has a special reason for his passion. He has been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, an arthritic condition which affects the joints and lower back. ‘Initially I was in denial about the diagnosis and really took up running to prove there was nothing wrong with me,’ says Rickett. Now, after coming to terms with the diagnosis and researching the condition, he says that running is ‘something that makes me feel in control, not the arthritis’. The challenge includes April’s London marathon and the Atlantic Coast challenge, which involves running three marathons in three consecutive days.
