It looks like Ewan and Charley had better watch their backs. When it comes to riding around random parts of the globe on a funky mode of transport, there’s a new gig in town. John Eley, an in-house solicitor at Lonza Biologics in Slough (pictured sans sunglasses), and his mate Dave Fraundorfer, are setting off for Mongolia this month in a black cab (actually we think they nicked the black cab bit from Stephen Fry).
The intrepid two will be delivering a novelty cheque to the World Vision Orphanage in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. They will be covering the 10,000 miles with no GPS, no mechanical skills, and plenty of pot holes. It seems the precise route is still to be fathomed but is likely to involve Iran, and probably Chernobyl. If it all sounds a tad hairbrained, then rest assured John and Dave are highly experienced in novelty transport. Their website shows them on a banana bike in Uganda, an elephant in India, and a pontoon in Malawi.
The two explorers will be updating their website regularly with news of their current location; you can also sponsor them through the website. We wish you luck, John and Dave – you could be facing one heck of a cab fare.
