'Turner Parkinson unites the nations', a press release from the Manchester firm announced grandly the other week. In an admirable, if perhaps flawed, effort to make recruitment news that little bit more interesting, the release begins: 'Take one Englishman, one Irishman, one Scotsman and one Welshman and what have you got? The insolvency team at Manchester law firm Turner Parkinson, that's what.' Yes, the hot news is that Scot Grahame Love has joined TP and there was much, much, much more along these lines to come. Partner-in-charge Mark Lund (the Englishman) said (or let's hope his PR flunkies scripted for him): 'With an Englishman, an Irishman [Kevin Pinkerton] and a Welshman [Will Jones] already in the insolvency department, it took a brave man to come in and complete the line-up. Luckily Grahame is made of stern, Scottish stock and can more than hold his own with the rest of us.' Despite diminishing returns setting in, there's even more guff about looking to recruit French and Italian lawyers to form the firm's own version of the 6 Nations, plus this 'scrum-ptious' photo as well (don't blame us - we just report this stuff). Sometimes, dare we say, the hiring of an insolvency lawyer is just that and nothing more. But PR folk - don't you just love 'em?
