Purely in the line of duty, readers will no doubt understand, Obiter was reading that august publication, the Daily Mirror, the other day when our attention was drawn to an article headlined 'Burlesque Brummies'. 'They look like every man's fantasy in their lacy basques, six-inch stilettos, frilly knickers, fishnet stockings and suspenders,' it breathlessly ran. 'But saucy burlesque dancers Femme Fatale are a huge hit with women too.' Several hundred words extolling the 'virtues' of the group followed, plus pictures, but what really caught Obiter's eye was the information about the Pop Idol-style auditions held in Birmingham for prospective members. 'We couldn't believe the backgrounds of some of the girls who turned up here in fishnets and high heels,' said founder Claire - aka Lulu Spanx. 'There was a solicitor who was bored with the long hours she was working and wanted to spice up her life.' Unfortunately, the said solicitor failed to make the cut so there will not be a performer called Silky Briefs appearing on stage alongside Lulu, Lolly Pop, Baby Blush, Dolly Devine and Foxy Amore. But just who is the mystery lawyer who, unbelievably, wants to trade a life of due diligence for the stage?
