Obiter's call for information on solicitors who continue with alternative careers while still practising as lawyers has so far only caught the imagination of dentists and mosaicists. However, this week it looks as if things are about to take off. Stephen Sutton, who for many years ran a small high street practice in Tyneside, decided in 2004 to set up a classical music label, initially as a hobby and with a view to raising funds for the restoration of a church organ. Divine Art Records (www.divine-art.com) has now become an international recording business with a catalogue of almost 100 CDs and a digital download store, even though Mr Sutton still runs it single-handedly. The next stage in its expansion will see the company set up a branch - with recording facility, retail store and tea-rooms - in Vermont in the US. But that's not all. Mr Sutton also found the time to set up a property investment company, Reversionary Property Consortium, with two colleagues. He continues to handle corporate and conveyancing work for the business.
