Sir Digby Jones, the Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry and former managing partner of Birmingham firm Edge Ellison (now part of Hammonds), appears to be developing a soap star-like propensity to open new premises. Two weeks ago, we profiled him opening a new legal practice in Dudley for the recently merged firm of Hawkins Hatton (see [2006] Gazette, 16 February, 12), and suggested he might be looking for a return to the legal profession. Now 'the voice of UK business' has popped up in Telford to cut the ribbon on Martin Kaye's new 16,000 sq ft premises. 'My visit to Telford was a great opportunity to see how a legal practice is working towards a successful future in the 21st century, and to hear about the challenges they are facing,' Sir Digby said.
