They say cleanliness is next to godliness. So according to the results of a survey carried out by national dry cleaners, Johnsons Cleaners, lawyers must be pretty close to the Almighty. They are apparently the second most unsullied professionals, only beaten by the uber-spruced financial services workers. An impressively hygienic 85% of lawyers polled said they got their suits dry cleaned once a month or more. For 45% of these, the result was a hefty annual dry cleaning bill of between £150 and £200, while 30% forked out more than £300 a year on having their threads titivated. Apparently, 85% of lawyers feel it is imperative they dress smartly for work, and nearly half claimed to spend well in excess of £2,000 a year on work clothes. Given the beating solicitors are taking from the credit crunch, however, it remains to be seen whether they will manage to keep up this high level of sartorial spending – or whether some may choose to swap Prada for Primark.
