Something fishy down at the RCJ
If justice were not blind and British judges not the most objective in the world, then solicitors at one City law firm would be feeling slightly queasy the next time they appeared behind counsel on behalf of their clients in the Court of Appeal. Obiter has it on extremely good authority that the firm's PR and marketing team got slightly carried away recently when it held a reception at the Bear Garden in the Royal Courts of Justice in London. Originally, the caterers were instructed to produce the usual assortment of cold canapés with the odd glass of fizz. However, some bright spark thought the firm would go that step further and get a bit creative - understandable when City practices have to strive to create their own identity in the hectic world of law firm parties. So the chefs were ordered to do something involving barbecued fish. All went down well enough on the night, but according to our sources, Appeal Court judges were chuntering for days afterwards about the overwhelming stench pervading the corridors of the venerable building. 'It's even seeped into the curtains,' spat one with disdain.
