Solicitors think nothing of traversing the world in the name of ‘charidee’ – hopping across the Sahara blindfolded with a small dry cracker for sustenance, that sort of thing.
But one of the more fun-sounding activities was that undertaken by a team of six from Salisbury firm Wilsons, who recently spent five days riding across the mountains and plains of Romania in aid of deafblind charity Sense International.
They have raised over £26,000 so far, with a target to reach £40,000. Alison McKenna, the firm’s former head of charities and now president of the Charity Tribunal, formed part of the team.
Having learned about the work of Sense in Romania, they were driven to a remote region of the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, riding 25 miles a day on Lipizzaner mares with their foals. The firm’s PR guru, Emma Wheeler, tells us that they didn’t come across any vampires but did cross the path of a large brown bear. With so much time in the saddle, we imagine it was squeaky bum time all round.
The group also included non-Wilsons people (pictured top, l-r): Susie Hatt-Cook (wife of the former senior partner), Jill Hasler, John Pollet, Penny Anderton, James Aspden (associate), Charlotte Watts (assistant), Jill Beavis, Alison McKenna, Emma Wheeler, and (kneeling) former senior partner and now consultant Mark Hatt-Cook.
