'David Bowie turned up in a dress with a handbag. I didn't know what to do.' This is not a sentence we have ever come across in a law firm press release, so thanks to Brighton's Howlett Clarke for providing it. It came in a stream of reminiscences from Jack Tyson, who retired last month after 45 years in the profession. Back in the 60s he had a music promotions sideline and brought The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and Rod Stewart to Brighton. With no detail omitted, we are told that he also joined Rod in playing football, while one of Mr Tyson's friends spilt hot tea over the star's mother (sadly for any claims farmers out there reading this, the limitation period has expired). But it was the unsettling encounter with Bowie that seemingly ended Mr Tyson's flirtation with the music business and just to show how long ago it was, the man who would be Ziggy Stardust was second billing to a group called The Groundhogs. 'Remember them?' asks the release. 'Us neither.'
