Obiter's search for lawyers with a connection - however tangential - to 'Doctor Who' has been given new impetus by District Judge Stephen Gold of Kingston-upon-Thames County Court, a contributor to our 'Benchmarks' column. His nephew is Murray Gold, who had the daunting task of adapting the classic 'Doctor Who' theme tune for the revived version, and happily did a terrific job of it. That music was the foundation for a sell-out concert in Cardiff recently featuring the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He has also written music for programmes such as 'Vanity Fair' and 'Queer as Folk'. When one of the Gazette's staff members got overly excited to be just a few links in the chain away from the good Doctor, Judge Gold revelled in the attention and said - somewhat tongue in cheek, we assume - that 'I expect a sniff of Billie Piper's costume could be arranged'. Unfortunately for the judge, he is unaware that the same member of staff is still waiting for him to make good on this.
