We're not sure what this says about David Knapp, a partner and head of residential property at Surrey firm Hart Brown, but when he was placed in these stocks for people to throw wet sponges at him, his contacts were pushing everyone else out the way to take advantage.
It came as part of a charity event held by the firm at Farnham Castle for those who refer work to it. In total, £1,350 was raised for The Lifetrain Trust and the Disasters Emergency Committee for the South Asia earthquake appeal. Guests were transported back to medieval times and invited to live like lords and ladies for the evening, feasting on a sumptuous three-course dinner in the grand setting of the Great Hall. There were minstrels, troupers, strolling players and a fire-eater to liven things up, culminating in Mr Knapp's appearance in the stocks, which alone raised £195.
Mr Knapp assures Obiter that he was not selected because he is the least popular member of firm, or because his face offered a particularly inviting target, but simply because he suggested the idea in the first place. 'I'm a fun-loving chap,' he adds, 'and I know people like throwing things at solicitors.'
