We are grateful to those kind people at Marks & Clark, the patent and trade mark attorneys, for informing us that the words 'Krap' and 'Bonk' are deemed acceptable as a trade mark. This piece of good news follows a recent Patent Office ruling after a Luxembourg-based company tried to register 'Jesus' as a mark for selling jeans and footwear in Britain. This was all too much for those guardians of taste at the Patent Office, which found the plan to be 'morally offensive'. Whether there will be a rush of law firms or chambers planning to take up the opportunity to rename themselves 'KrapLegal' or 'Bonk Barristers' remains to be seen, however.
