There has been a surprising absence of law firm press activity desperately trying to leap aboard the Ashes bandwagon in recent weeks with some tenuous connection to the cricket (while there's been not a sniff of any corporate hospitality, sadly), so hats off to central London firm Wedlake Bell for being the only practice to give it a shot. It has more reason than most, however, as it advised Surrey County Cricket Club on the £25 million redevelopment of the Brit Oval, where this week's climactic fifth test is being staged. The 16-month project ended on schedule in June and saw the demolition of the stands at the Vauxhall End, to be replaced by the new four-story OCS Stand, with an iconic curved roof, comprising increased spectator seating (the capacity is up 4,000 to 23,000), new conference and banqueting facilities, media and education centres, and a landscaped 'living screen' of plants, whatever that may be, to camouflage the rear. They sent us this nice picture, but we reckon that really to appreciate the legal work involved, we would need to visit the site in person. Obiter has some spare time this weekend, as it so happens...
