The intensity of Obiter's solicitor truck-driving competition is getting white hot, so hot you could fry an egg on the bonnet. Stephen Kimbell, senior partner of Milton Keynes firm Kimbells, has entered the fray with the claim that he has held his heavy goods vehicle (HGV) licence for some 30 years. This is longer than our previous entrants but not what makes him stand out - he has also held a helicopter pilot's licence for 20 years. But surely there is a solicitor out there with an HGV licence, a helicopter pilot's licence and an aeroplane pilot's licence to trump this impressive claim? Mr Kimbell is also a contender for another category - the solicitor who has driven his truck the furthest, having recently returned from a 4,000-mile trip to Romania on a humanitarian aid trip. Meanwhile, Docklands-based solicitor Edward Album is the front-runner for another award: the lawyer with the biggest truck. Following military service, when he drove various heavy vehicles, he is now the proud owner of a 10-ton AEC Matador 1944 vintage. Mr Album (pictured on the left with two clients outside his offices) takes the vehicle - which was used by the Royal Artillery for carrying and towing guns and armoury - to displays. He will be showing it off at The War and Peace Display in Kent in July this year. But the question remains: is it the largest truck owned by a lawyer?
