As probate lawyers know only too well, there are an awful lot of folk out there who still haven’t got round to making a will (it is, of course, at the very top of Obiter’s to-do list, and has been for years). This means the estates of some disorganised types who end up dying intestate could end up being snapped up by the Crown, or worse still, be inherited by unpopular human relatives instead of Tiddles and her ilk. So Obiter was pleased to be informed that a website, mylastsong.com, is encouraging people to make a will, and what’s more, encouraging them to use qualified solicitors too. The website hosts all kinds of services for people wishing to make exit arrangements, including a ‘vault’ for online storage of documents and wishes, tips on how to write one’s own obituary and, as the name suggests, a section for choosing an appropriate funeral playlist. Obiter has a few helpful suggestions: how about Going Underground by The Jam (pictured), or Living in a Box by the eponymous 1980s band? Depending on the mode of death, The Verve’s The Drugs Don’t Work could be a possibility, but failing that, there is always AC/DC’s Highway to Hell.
