Some trainees will go to great lengths to get out of going to Chancery Lane for their admission ceremony. But perhaps none has gone as far as trainee Oliver Mills, who works at Edward Hayes in Chichester. He has chosen to swap the joys of Law Society HQ for a trip to the Arctic as part of the Ice Warrior expedition. Flying out on 21 April to Resolute in Canada, he and 23 other Arctic novices first face four weeks of intensive training in temperatures of -40 degrees. The team will then split in two. One group will take a new route to the geomagnetic north pole across 250 miles of sea ice, while the other will set out for the magnetic North Pole. A small team will then attempt to reach the Arctic Pole. In what is reckoned - fairly confidently - to be a first, Mr Mills is expected to qualify as a solicitor just as he arrives at the North Pole. For more information on the expedition, which also hopes to raise awareness of Cancer Research UK, see www.ice-warrior.com.
