England and Wales is clearly not the only jurisdiction where the legal profession is getting hot under the collar over court dress. Sartorial matters have also been something of a material issue across the Atlantic. A dapper Milwaukee prosecutor recently found himself buttonholed for his habit of sporting a red 'ascot' - that's a cravat to the rest of us - in the courtroom. The judge took umbrage at the garment, which he said 'borders on the contemptuous', claiming that it breaches court rules obliging male lawyers to wear a tie in court. Undeterred, the subject of this judicial scorn has reportedly promised to show off his dazzling neckwear collection by rotating between a long tie, a cravat and a bow tie at each court appearance. Sounds fine and dandy to us.
