As regular readers will know, here at Obiter we like to profile lawyers' charitable fundraising efforts when they are genuinely unusual. Definitely falling into this category is Tim Malloch, a 35-year-old solicitor who used to work at City giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. After a life-changing moment at a supermarket in south London one Friday night last year, when his favourite brand of vegetarian nut cutlets had been withdrawn from sale (for an explanation, see his Web site at www.pushonnorth.com), Mr Malloch decided to embark on a cycle ride along the PanAmerican highway from Ushuaia in Argentina to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This picture sees him at the highest point so far in his epic journey, 5,059 metres (or 16,598 feet) above sea level at a mountain pass in Peru. Mr Malloch hopes to cross the equator in his beloved Newcastle United top sometime in the next two weeks and to complete the 18,000 kilometre-long trip in June 2007.
