So far on our trawl for practising solicitors with alternative careers, we have unearthed a dentist, two mosaicists, a classical record company mogul and a sculptor. This week we are proud to bring our first brewer, Ian Pearson, who has enjoyed a number of different careers since leaving full-time practice. Prior to establishing his microbrewery, the Stowey Brewery in Nether Stowey, Somerset, he set up a guesthouse and a walking holiday company. He still finds time to work a day and a half per week as an employment lawyer at Barringtons in Farnham, Surrey. The brewery, which has been up and running since the spring, produces a couple of firkins a week to supply the guesthouse and pubs in the area. Its beers include Nether Ending, produced all year round, It's Now or Nether, a spring brew, and - eagle-eyed readers may spot a theme here - It Nether Rains (But It Pours), a summer brew.
